How to get there

The logistics are simple: it’s only two hours of summer from Moscow to Perm. Aeroflot has 5 flights a day: it is most convenient to take the morning flight, since there is a 2—hour time difference between the cities. Ticket prices start from 10,000 rubles one way. You can save money by choosing Pobeda: it flies at night, but it’s half as cheap.

What is the weather like in Perm in winter

Winter in Perm is usually quite harsh: The thermometer often drops to -20 °C even during the daytime. However, this year is an exception: in December there were only a few really frosty days, the rest of the time — quite tolerable 0… -2. However, due to the dry climate, even severe cold weather is easier to bear here than in the capital, but this does not negate the need to bring warm clothes with you. Comfortable shoes will not be superfluous either: there is quite a lot of snow in the city.

Where to stay

Over the past few years, noteworthy hotels have appeared in Perm. For example, you can settle in the Motovilikha area, where the history of the city began. The Holiday Inn Perm Hotel is located here with spacious rooms, comfortable pillows and good breakfasts. On the ground floor there is a bar with a decent selection of wine glasses and the Karin restaurant, which serves European and local cuisine. It’s ideal if you don’t feel like going anywhere after a long day.

If you want to live closer to the center, pay attention to the Ural Hotel: the central square of the city, called the esplanade, is within walking distance from here. It occupies three blocks and appeared in the 70s: since then, the square has been considered the hallmark of the city. There are many shopping malls and restaurants near the Urals, and the sculpture “Permyak salty ears” is located right next to the walls of the hotel, which tourists love to take pictures with.

For those who appreciate comfort and silence, the Grand Hotel Perm boutique Hotel is newly renovated and has stylish interiors.

What to do in Perm in winter

A ride on a tourist bus

Winter walks are fun for an amateur, but you still want to see the city. You can do this comfortably from the window of the 300T tourist bus. He has several routes with an average length of 2 hours. The bus makes a number of stops along the way, so you can get out and take pictures. An educational audio guide is provided as information support. Tickets cost from 500 to 1,500 rubles, depending on the selected tour.

Make sure that happiness is just around the corner

One of the symbols of Perm is the art object “Happiness is just around the corner”: large red letters are installed on the embankment of the Kama River. The inscription became famous throughout the country thanks to the TV series “Real Boys” and the film “Geographer drank the Globe”, and photos of “Happiness” even appeared in Kanye West’s video for the song White Dress.

Count the bears on the embankment

If we talk about symbols, we can’t help but remember about the bear: the clubfoot is emblazoned on the coat of arms of Perm. The bear theme in the city is generally well-developed: for example, charming sculptures of bears are installed on the embankment of the Kama River, each of which is busy with his own business. One holds a soft sign in his paws — the one that visitors always lose in the name of the city. Another one eats traditional Permian cookies (we’ll come back to them later), the third one plays records (Perm is the birthplace of DJ Smash). In winter, bears are dressed up in touching knitted hats and scarves, which makes them even more cute.

Find the best hangouts

This is the name of the local pies, which look like tiny chebureks. According to the classic recipe, minced meat and broth are inside, although the option with horsetail pistachios is also popular.: this is another Permian specialty. But the main dispute about pies is not a gastronomic one, but a philological one. The fact is that there are two ways to spell the name: picekunchiki (filling from”sliced” meat) and picandkunchiki (pies sprinkle, as they used to say in the old days, “sizzle” with broth). There is no right option: both have the right to exist. In honor of the controversial topic, a special monument has even been erected near the entrance to the Choskyt Kerku restaurant of Komi-Permian cuisine. By the way, be sure to stop by this place for a local flavor, borscht and shangami are another local pies, with bird cherry for dessert.
