The white poodle became part of a rescue team consisting of Labradors. This unusual choice attracted the attention of vacationers, because usually only Labradors and Newfoundlanders are used in such roles.
Poodles have historically been used for water rescue, and their name comes from the German word puddeln, which means “to splash.”
Nilo’s training took place in stages, as he was afraid of loud noises and crowds, but now the dog confidently swims, using his tail to steer.
