According to Kaspersky Lab, 10% of people don’t think about website security at all, and 33% only do it occasionally. This is a mistake, as scammers can take advantage of this carelessness.
Most Russians plan their trips online. For example, they often search for accommodation:
- in specialized services with hotels — 46%;
- through travel agencies — 45%;
- on hotel websites — 36%;
- in social networks and messengers — 12%.
Scammers keep a close eye on travel trends and use them in their schemes. For example, they create fake websites that mimic popular booking services, or send out phishing links with “last-minute” travel deals at too low prices. This is designed to take advantage of people’s inattention: they click on the link, enter their details in the hope of purchasing a tour, but end up losing their money.
To avoid becoming a victim of scammers, it is important to:
- check the website address (URL);
- read reviews;
- do not click on suspicious links;
- do not enter data on questionable pages.
