Let the festivities begin! On September 21, 2024, the annual Oktoberfest beer festival started in Munich.
The holiday began traditionally — on the third Saturday of September, at 11:00 local time. The mayor of the city Dieter Reiter opened the event by hammering a tap into a barrel with freshly brewed beer.
In 2023, more than seven million people participated in the festival. The guests drank 6.5 million mugs of beer, including non-alcoholic (200,000 servings).
The very first Oktoberfest took place back in 1810. Then the wedding of Ludwig I and Princess Theresa of Saxony was celebrated. Mass celebrations with free beer were organized for residents.
And we have a couple more ideas here for what to do in October.
