What to do for the New Year
There are as many options as there are toys on the Christmas tree! Let’s start with the base: to feel the festive atmosphere, go for a walk through the most elegant streets of the capital.
Take a walk through the center
It’s so nice to walk around the glowing city center, for example, along both Arbats! On Tverskaya Street, take a look at the Journey to Christmas festival, which takes place from December 14 to January 12 in different parts of the capital. Wander along Nikolskaya Street, near the Kuznetsky Bridge, on Petrovka, in Zaryadye Park — in these places you will definitely feel the cheerful festive bustle. It will also be beautiful in the squares of the city: Sobornaya, where the main Christmas tree is installed, Teatralnaya, Manezhnaya, Pushkinskaya.
Festivals and celebrations of winter 2024/2025
Take a walk, people! And where exactly to celebrate New Year’s holidays, they told in an article about seasonal festivals in Russia.
But you won’t be able to get to Red Square on New Year’s Eve — it will be closed from the evening of December 31st until the morning of January 1st. However, there is one secret of how to celebrate the holiday here – now we will share it.
Ride a GUM rink
There is one way to celebrate the New Year on Red Square. It’s simple: you need to buy a ticket to the GUM rink. The session will last from 22:00 to 02:00. This is a chance to listen to the chimes in real life, not on TV, take vivid photos among the New Year decorations and just start the year actively with magical music.
Tickets for New Year’s Eve can be purchased from December 15 only at the skating rink box office. The cost for one is 12,025 rubles. The price is impressive, but when else will you be able to skate while the chimes are striking? Guests will be provided with additional information about the route. The entrance to the rink will be open from 21:30 to 23:30.
Take a cruise on the Moskva River
The parties on the ships are accompanied by fun contests, rousing dances, shows and pleasant music. There is no place without a delicious dinner and sparkling wine, the menu includes delicious dishes from chefs and unlimited drinks. The duration of the boat trip will be from 5 to 9 hours. Motor ships depart from the Luzhniki Yuzhny, City Expocenter, and Frunzenskaya Embankment berths. It seems that you are not making a simple cruise on board, but traveling through time. The cost per person starts from 20,000 rubles
Join the bus tour
You can celebrate New Year’s Eve not only on a boat, but also in another unusual place — a bus. Together with the rest of the passengers, you will pass by bright and illuminated streets, and the guide will tell you about the sights of the city, tell entertaining stories about the main holiday. It will be interesting for both tourists and locals here. Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden as storytellers, champagne, a great mood — all this awaits the guests on the tour. And the surprises don’t end there. Do not forget about warm clothes, so that no weather will definitely interfere with a great mood. Celebrate the New Year not just in a fun way, but also in an informative and soulful way! Such tours will cost relatively inexpensive on average — from 4,500 rubles per person.
Visit the Bolshoi Theatre
Spending 2024 within the walls of the majestic Bolshoi Theatre is a dream. But getting here is not an easy task: recently, only personalized tickets have been sold, and in limited quantities. In any case, in the midst of the luxurious decoration, you forget about all the difficulties and realize that it was worth it. On December 31, the program includes “The Nutcracker”, “The Story of Kai and Gerda”, “Cherevichki” and a New Year’s gala concert. Productions will take place on Historical, New and Chamber Stages. The minimum ticket price for the “Nutcracker” is 5,000 rubles. without benefits, the Youth rate is 1,250 rubles.
Spend the night in restaurants and bars
Programs for the New Year are offered by various establishments: cafes, bars, karaoke clubs. Usually everything is classic here: a festive dinner, funny contests, dancing, congratulations from Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden. On average, prices for a holiday outside the home start from 8,000-10,000 rubles per person.
- Banquet hall on the Garden Ring. To celebrate the New Year, there will be three halls in different styles: “Good Old rock”, “Irish”, “12 chairs”. The cost is 10,000 rubles per person.
- On The Rocks bar. A party with dancing, contests and unlimited drinks. You only need to pay for admission — from 5,000 rubles per person before December 24, 7,000 rubles after December 24.
- “Northerners”. The place is from the restaurateur Ilya Tyutenkov, who is associated with the fashion projects “Gorynych”, “Ugolek”, Pinch and others. The New Year’s menu includes olivier with Kamchatka crab, black caviar, Chilean sea bass, unlimited sparkling wine and more. The cost starts from 30,000 rubles per person.
Where to go during the winter holidays in Moscow
December 31 will pass quickly, and then you need to do something for the rest of the holiday week. You can, of course, wrap yourself in a blanket and review the entire “Harry Potter”, but if you still want to leave the house, then here are a couple of ideas: explore the free places in Moscow, look into the decorated cozy coffee shops and visit the unusual museums of the capital.
How to plan a holiday
We recommend spending time actively in the morning or afternoon. For example, go to Gorky Park or VDNKh. Here you can choose an ice rink, watch performances or have a snack in the fresh air. Those who prefer skiing can do it on Vorobyovy Gory.
If you want a cultural program, take a closer look at theatrical productions: among them “New Year’s Tavern” at the Satire Theater, “The Last Tale” atMoscow Youth Palace, “How to light a Christmas Tree” at the Maska Theater. And if you manage to get to the Bolshoi Theater, it’s really cool, we’re jealous!
It will be great to go with the children to the Kremlin Christmas tree, to the Tatiana Navka ice show at Megasport, or to the “Tale of the Goldfish” performance at the Bolshoi Moscow Circus. The full list of ideas on how to entertain a child during the winter holidays is in the collection of the Island.
The X-moment awaits everyone in the evening. Wherever you choose to celebrate the New Year — on the streets of the capital, on a cruise, on a bus tour or at home, the main thing is that your loved ones are nearby.
