It’s no secret that a vacation is needed to have a good rest and recuperate. But sometimes a new location can cause discomfort. Radical Storage has identified the top 10 most stressful travel destinations based on more than 97,000 reviews of popular cities around the world.
The reviews were analyzed for the presence of words related to stress and anxiety, such as “crowded,” “traffic jam,” and “nervous.”
We got to the top:
- Tokyo, Japan.In a megalopolis of 38 million people, 25.2% of reviews speak of stress due to crowds, complicated subway system and high transport prices. Queues for access to attractions also add to the inconvenience.
- Osaka, Japan. 21.6% of reviews mention discomfort during a stay in the city, especially in the crowded Universal Studios theme park.
- Kyoto, Japan.21.5% of the reviews mention the rejection of tourists in a place where restrictions are imposed, such as fines for photographing without consent.
- London, United Kingdom.The British capital is recognized as the most stressful city in Europe with 17.7% of negative reviews. Tourists note the high workload and high cost, describing a visit to the British Museum as “stressful.”
- Shanghai, China. 16.7% of the reviews mention discomfort from a large number of skyscrapers, people and heavy traffic.
- Beijing, China.In 16.6% of the reviews, travelers describe the city as stressful due to the language barrier and difficulties with movement. Few people speak English, and payment for services and purchases is often done through QR codes on WeChat, which creates problems for foreigners.
- Phuket, Thailand.15.6% of tourists experience stress due to heat, humidity and lack of public transport.
- New York, USA. 15.4% of reviews report discomfort due to dirt on the streets and high prices in cafes.
- Prague, Czech Republic.15.2% of travelers are unhappy with the noise and the large number of drunk vacationers, which prevents them from taking beautiful photos.
- Paris, France. 14.9% of reviews mention stress due to the crowds of tourists, especially at the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.
