As reported in Le Parisien, the Louvre in Paris needs major repairs due to significant wear and tear. The director of the museum, Laurence de Car, warns of the need for large-scale work.
The expert points to the “alarming level of dilapidation” of the building, including destruction threatening the penetration of water and temperature fluctuations that can damage the exhibits. She notes the disadvantages of the glass pyramid, such as low sound insulation and insufficient ventilation, as well as the need to improve the territory in front of the museum and its connection to the transport network.
There are not enough places for visitors to relax in the Louvre, and the food conditions do not meet international standards. French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans for the restoration and expansion of the museum, including the allocation of 10 million euros for the project.
A new entrance is expected to be built and a special place for the Mona Lisa will be created separately from the entire collection. From 2026, differentiated ticket prices will be introduced for foreign tourists who do not live in the EU.
In the meantime, the Louvre will be undergoing renovation, we suggest visiting the unusual museums of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg.
