It became part of the route connecting the Indian part of Kashmir with the rest of the country. The 1,315-meter-long and 359-meter-high bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project cost was more than $160 million. The new bridge, located over the Chenab River, is designed with resilience to natural disasters and attacks in mind. It connects Srinagar with the city of Katra, which will significantly reduce travel time for tourists and pilgrims.
Locals consider the opening of the bridge to be a historic event, expecting that it will contribute to the development of tourism and agriculture. The railway will also be laid to Baramul. The opening of the bridge is confirmed in the Guinness Book of Records, which displaced the Chinese Nadzihe bridge with a height of 305 meters to the second place.
