Based on a survey conducted by the Coordination Center of the Government of the Russian Federation, Baikal is the most popular destination in Russia in 2024.
In total, over 2,000 people participated in the study. Baikal won 43% of the vote, the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar Territory — 33%, and Crimea — 32%.
Domestic tourism is still popular:
- this year 73% of Russians will spend their holidays traveling around Russia;
- 11% — stay at home or in the country;
- 15% of tourists will go abroad.
But in the summer of 2024, St. Petersburg will become the leader in popularity. 25% of the respondents will go to it.
This is followed by Altai (20%), Baikal (17%), Moscow and the Moscow region, the North Caucasus (16% each), the Kaliningrad Region (13%), Kazan and Karelia (12% each).
According to local authorities, the total tourist flow to Lake Baikal should reach 5 million people per year by 2036.
